LAHORE:

To cover up for the utter embarrassment over its blunder to nominate Dr Tahirul Qadri’s son, Hussain Mohiuddin in FIR of the Model Town incident, Lahore police had to — in initial investigation report — absolve him of the charges against him due to lack of evidence and witnesses.

However, a senior investigation officer, on condition of anonymity, informed The Express Tribune that the real reason behind the exclusion of Mohiuddin’s name from the investigation report to be presented before court was that the FIR was lodged at around 11:00pm on Tuesday night — on complaint of Faisal Town SHO Rizwan Qadir — while the accused arrived in Pakistan from Canada through a flight that landed at 2:30am on Wednesday.

The official said that other named accused are also likely to be absolved during further investigations.

The senior investigation officer further said that police is also likely to face hard time in front of court tribunals and other forums because the content of the FIR is weak, as it accuses the PAT activists of firing teargas shells at the police apart from holding them responsible for killing of their own activists.

On the other hand, a complaint was filed at the Faisal Town police station by the director admin of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Jawad Hamid, blaming 21 people for the deaths that occurred during a clash between Model Town police and PAT activists on Monday.

The complainant accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, MNA Hamza Shahbaz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, State Minister Abid Sher Ali, Khwaja Saad Rafique, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and several police officers.

However, FIR was not lodged at the filing of this report.
