Line of fire: Gang member killed in ‘encounter’

Wasim Paddu was killed when the police raided his hideout and the gang members opened fire at the police team.

KARACHI: Baghdadi police killed an alleged operative of the Lyari gang war on Thursday during an alleged encounter in the Musa Lane area of Lyari. According to the police, Wasim Paddu was killed when the police raided his hideout and the gang members opened fire at the police team. In the resulting exchange of fire, Waseem was killed while his accomplices managed to flee. The police found a pistol, hand grenades and rounds from his possession. Waseem was wanted to the police in a number of cases of murder, attempted murder, rape, extortion and street crimes. After the incident, some men fired at a police team in the Ali Hotel area of Baghdadi after which Lyari police started an operation in the area. Intense firing broke out between the police and the alleged gang members and continued well into the night.
