Crime in the city: Woman killed in robbery bid, two bodies found

The woman’s niece died of a heart attack when she saw her aunt pass away.

KARACHI: Two women were killed in a shooting incident near Korangi Crossing within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station on Saturday. The deceased woman was identified as 50-year-old Saeeda Bano, wife of Omar Din. Meanwhile, Bano's 18-year-old niece, Insha, died of a heart attack following the incident.

DSP Raheem Shah said that the deceased woman was a resident of Mustafa Colony, Korangi. The incident occurred when she, along with her family and relatives, was returning from a picnic at the Clifton beach on Saturday night. Their families said that unidentified assailants tried to intercept their vehicle. They opened fire as the driver tried to escape.

As a result of the firing, Saeeda Bano was killed while her niece died of a heart attack after she saw her aunt breathe her last. Their families staged a protest against the incident and shouted slogans against the police. They said that the incident occurred due to the unavailability of police in the area.

In an unrelated incident, a young man was found dead in Zaman Town. Police officials said that unidentified culprits had kidnapped the victim and strangled him to death after subjecting him to torture. SHO Abbas Kolachi said that the deceased is yet to be identified while further investigation was under way.

Another young man was found dead in Liaquatabad. Police officials said that unidentified culprits had earlier kidnapped the victim, shot him twice in the head and later dumped his body. The body was moved to Edhi morgue for identification.
