The request was brought forward by the party's secretary general, Pervez Ashraf.
It was reported that this decision was taken after tensions arose between Abidi and the party.
Last week, during a meeting with the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, Senator Rehman Malik and Abidi verbally sparred with each other, after which Malik threatened to stage a walkout from the meeting if Abidi insisted on shouting and did not permit him to speak.
Abidi, had previously resigned from the PPP Karachi division presidency following an internal party rift in 2012.
Despite having influence in Karachi and holding a senate seat on the PPP ticket, he had been sidelined from much of the party’s decision making, having been shut out of the central executive committee.

@Tanzeel: @Shah: I my opinion, the way he speaks openly critizes his leadership, he will not fit in MQM. As in MQM you have follow the strict guidlines!!
He doesn't fit in PPP anyways, he should probably resign from PPP and join MQM instead, more of his taste..
His natural place is MQM, the way he speaks, the way he acts and the way he 'criticez'
Didn't Rehman Malik get him massive discounts at PC? Apparently an ungrateful guy
good that he resigned the man was spreading sectarian hatred for a long time now
Fair enough- He has been stating that he is not part of PPP- and is out of politics. He should had resigned him self. If he resigns then he can openly critisize on Rehman malik and the rest of the PPP junta.
He's too good for PPP anyway
So now who is going to pay the bill of pearl continental hotel room.
