FAISALABAD:

The Madina Town police on Friday registered a case against a man accused of threatening to blow up his wife with a bomb for seeking a divorce.

Fakhira, a resident of Toba Tek Singh, told the media that she had moved a local court two weeks ago.

She said she had filed a petition seeking divorce from her husband, Muhammad Arshad, as well as recovery of dowry and a Rs200,000 dower.

Fakhira said the dower cheque she had received at the time of her marriage six months ago had been dishonoured.

“My husband used to beat me up and eventually kicked me out of the house… I had no option but to seek divorce by moving a court,” she said.

She said Arshad telephoned her on Thursday and threatened to blow her up if she didn’t withdraw the case.

“He also threatened to blow up my family and their house.” Fakhira said her family had moved out of their house following the threat.

Madina Town Station House Officer (SHO) police said a case had been registered against Muhammad Arshad for hurling threats under Section 26 of the Telegraph Act.

He said a police team had been constituted to arrest him.
