BAHAWALPUR: Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Thursday that several welfare projects would be launched soon in Cholistan. Talking to the media after a visit to Derawar Fort, Kher Sar, Bijnot, Nawankot and Chachran, he said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was taking special interest in Cholistan. He said the provincial government had released funds for maintenance of water supply lines in Cholistan. “A 360-kilometre pipeline is already functioning,” he said. The minister said the health of the people in Cholistan and their livestock was satisfactory. “There is no immediate danger of spread of contagious diseases.” He said the Cholistan Development Authority had set up free medical and veterinary camps under the Bahawalpur commissioner’s supervision. He said there was a shortage of water in tobas (ponds) due to a lack of rainfall. “Water wells are not dry though… people are using these to fetch water.”
