A rescue driver and a woman lost their lives and at least four others were wounded during a fresh wave of violence between two rival groups in Lyari on Saturday.
Thirty-five-year-old Naseema, wife of Qazzafi, was killed when an awan bomb, shot by gangsters, fell inside her house in Street No. 6, Shah Baig Lane, in Lyari’s Baghdadi area. Separately, a rescue worker, 35-year-old Lal Muhammad, son of Hashim, was shot dead in Chakiwara, Lyari.
The deceased driver had been associated with the Chhipa Welfare since about 15 years. He was a resident of Baldia Town and was a father of four children. Chhipa Welfare founder, Ramzan Chhipa, told The Express Tribune that the deceased had gone to Lyari to rescue victims who had been injured. “Soon after he reached Lyari, a bullet penetrated his chest, killing him at the spot,” he explained. “We have no words to say to the government.”
Despite frequent operations by law enforcement agencies, the conflict between the two rival gangs - Baba Ladla and Uzair Baloch still continues in Lyari. The law enforcers have been largely unable to control the situation or curb the tensions between the rival gangs in Karachi’s oldest neighbourhood.
SP Sheraz Nazeer said that both the woman and the driver were not specifically targeted but they became victims of rocket attacks and firing between the rival groups.
