Cross-border trade: FO help sought to resolve spat

The FO officials assured the Tata officials that highest level of diplomacy will be used to solve the spat.

The cross-border trade and travel have remained suspended since last Friday after police in Indian held Kashmir arrested a truck driver from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) accusing him of smuggling heroin.

Officials of the Cross LoC Travel and Trade Authority (Tata) have sought help from Foreign Office (FO) to intervene to get the trucks released from the detention of authorities in Indian held Kashmir.


The cross-border trade and travel have remained suspended since last Friday after police in Indian held Kashmir arrested a truck driver from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) accusing him of smuggling heroin. The Indian administration has also detained 49 other trucks from this side of the border, prompting Pakistan to halt the cross-border trade and bus travel.


Sources told The Express Tribune that the Tata officials met senior officials of the FO on Thursday to get the issue resolved at the earliest.


Tata officials were told that the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi was already in contact with Islamabad on the issue. The FO officials assured the Tata officials that highest level of diplomacy will be used to solve the spat.
