Amplifier act: 9 prayer leaders booked

Police spokesman says several prayer leaders in the city were guilty of violating law against use of loudspeakers.

FAISALABAD: Police on Saturday and Sunday registered FIRs against nine prayer leaders for violating the Amplifier Act. A police spokesman told The Express Tribune that several prayer leaders in the city were guilty of violating the law against the use of loudspeakers. He said the police had registered cases against prayer leaders Qari Masood, Maulana Rafiq Anjum, Maulana Rabnawaz, Qari Ismaeel, Qari Zubair Anwar, Hafiz Rustam Ali, Maulana Ramazan Arshad, Maulana Akram Riaz and Maulana Laeeq Akhtar. “Police have been conducting raids but no one has been arrested,” he said.
