Abro is an MPA and a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
“Majid Abro and his guard sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Mohammed Jaffar told The Express Tribune.
The injured have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Majid Abro was going to airport when his vehicle was attacked with a roadside bomb. “Unknown persons planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by the side of the road and detonated it by remote control when the vehicle of Majid Abro passed by,” Jaffar said.
He added that investigations were at the initial stage and it is premature to say who is behind this attack.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) said around four kilograms of explosive material were used in the blast.
Majid Abro was head of Jamoot Quami Movement (JQM) and after General Elections on May 12th, he merged JQM into PML-N.
Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Malik Baloch ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked the senior police officers to trace the culprits involved in this act of terror.
Spokesperson of Balochistan government Jam Mohammed Buledi said Abro was the target of the attack, adding that terrorists want to sabotage peace in the province.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and a search operation is underway.
