The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Multan district and sessions judge to submit a report within a week on newspaper reports of a police constable raping a 15-year-old girl.
The father of the girl, a resident of Shujabad, had told newsmen that his daughter had worked at a brick kiln factory. He said last week she was abducted and molested by Constable Asif Sanwal of Raja Ram police and an unidentified accomplice.
He said she was taken to a rural health centre in Kotli Najabat where her medical examination showed that she had been raped. Her mother said she and her family were getting death threats. Raja Ram SHO Zulfiqar Gujjar said a case had been registered against Constable Asif Sanwal and his companion. He said the accused constable had been granted interim bail by court. The SHO said DNA samples of the victim and the suspect had been sent to a laboratory in Lahore.
