The annual elections of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) are scheduled to be held at the City Courts today (Saturday).
The city’s legal fraternity will vote to elect six office-bearers and 11 members of the managing committee for 2014. South district and sessions judge Ahmed Saba will act as the chief election commissioner while additional district and sessions judges will perform presiding officer duties. Senior civil and family judges of East, West, Central and South districts will act as assistant presiding officers and judicial magistrates will be on duty as polling officers. Polling booths have been set up at the court’s premises, which will remain open from 9am to 5pm.
The total number of lawyers at City Courts is over 12,000 but the number of registered voters is almost half, only a little over 6,000.
Mahmoodul Hassan, a former KBA president, and Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed are vying for the KBA’s president slot.
