KARACHI: Police officials are still mystified by the incident in which five members of a family were found dead inside their house in Baldia Town on Monday.

Based on the initial autopsy report, doctors believe that the victims died from consuming a poisonous substance.

Police investigators have, however, yet to find concrete evidence to prove this theory.

“We cannot register a case based on initial findings. We will wait until the doctors officially declare that the cause of death was poison,” said Baldia division SP Malik Muhammad Ehsan, while talking to The Express Tribune.

The chemical examination report will be issued after at least two weeks. The officer said that the police were also looking for the deceased persons’ families and could register an FIR if their heirs approached police to register the case. Meanwhile, samples of food and sweets found at the victims’ house have also been sent to the laboratory to test for traces of poison.

On the other hand, investigators are probing the previous case in which the deceased, Uzma and her husband Abrar, were charged for allegedly killing a woman about two years ago.

“One woman was killed and another was wounded when armed men opened fire at a prostitution den, owned by the deceased, Uzma,” the investigating officer, inspector Imam Buksh, told The Express Tribune.

“We had registered a case against the couple as the injured woman had accused them to be the main perpetrators behind the attack.”

The officer clarified that the police was yet to find a link between the previous and recent incidents. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased are being kept at the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth until they claimed by their heirs.
