KARACHI:

A large number of Lyari residents staged a protest on Tuesday against the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) and elected Lyari representatives of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The protest was held at Dubai Chowk, a stronghold area of notorious Lyari gangster Noor Mohammad aka Baba Ladla and Ghaffar Zikri.

A large number of women and children also participated in the protest and shouted slogans in favour of Pakistan army, Rangers and police. The protesters shouted slogans against the outlawed PAC chief Uzair Jan Baloch, demanding his immediate arrest. The protesters also stated that PPP should remove MPAs Sania Naz and Javed Nagori from their party. The demonstrators blamed Baloch and the MPAs for the violence and bloodshed in Lyari while they praised the law enforcement agencies. The protest ended peacefully as Rangers and police guarded the area in order to prevent any violence.

“The protesters, especially the women, were forcibly made to stage a protest by Ladla and Zikri,” a Baghdadi station police officer Mohammad Shaukat informed The Express Tribune. “But at least they appreciated our efforts.”
