Out of this amount, $560,000 is for three additional feasibility studies for the dam, the official said.
He also said that as part of its ongoing programmes in Pakistan, the United States government will spend $14 million on the installation of smart meters for gauging electricity use at substations and countering the problem of power theft.
The Bhasha dam project has been revived by the current government. The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah recently announced that the Gilgit-Baltistan government had transferred 1,700 acres of land to WAPDA for the project, and further work was underway.

@Fareed:
Did you even read my comment. My commend was regarding Zain's concern of US TAX money.
Pakistan needs aid and does not care where it comes from , be it US, Saudi or UN. And in return Pakistan is happy to oblige these donors, sometimes with compromises on its sovereignty and dignity.
Back to TAX Money concern. I wanted to point out that while he is concerned about 20 m, Trillions are wasted on wars. This world is full of contradictions. Let me give you another example close to home. British Tax payers give India 500 m dollars annually. And India pledged total of US$2 billion to Afghanistan in May 2011 after Manmohan Singh visited to Kabul for a two-day visit. Essentially it is 4 years of British Tax money, initially intended to help Indian poor, but gets diverted. to Afghanistan for political gains.
I am merely stating facts, feel free to draw conclusions.
@MK
Why do you lecture poeple about Afghanistan and Iraq, unfortunately Pakistan is sitting at the same sinking ship, just be brave and say we need their aid mate. Dont beat around the bushes!
@S:
A simple "thank you" maybe more appropriate.
Don't support the making of dams. The human cost is so high that 'developed' countries have even stopped making dams. This is just a big scam that forces rural Pakistanis to suffer and loan givers to make a lot of money. Read "A Greater Common Good" to learn about the human cost of making dams.
@Zain:
Do you really feel for US Tax payers money???. It costed tax payer 6 Trillion dollars for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Results: Afghanistan is back to number one opium/heroin producer in the world, Taliban are foreseeing a come back after the withdrawal in 2014. Knowing that US is talking to them and spending "TAX MONEY" to make them offices overseas, a corrupt and inefficient puppet government in Afghanistan, who is now looking to introduce stoning for adultery as a law. Afghan women parliamentarians got threatened with rape and murder on parliament floor.
And a stable and peaceful Iraq is also in front of us. LOL.
US is the only western developed country without universal health care and more than 20 m house holds (assuming there are 3 people per house hold it is about 60m plus or 20% of the population) are on food stamps.
Don't get me wrong US government care about it own citizens exponentially more than what Pakistan would ever do, but I just wanted to comment on your concern about 20m dollars.
American aid has been used in agriculture as well as for clean water. So Khan sahib and Munawar Hasan should stop eating as well as drinking water until system is cleansed!
@Spock: Khan Sahb now has become a hallmark of typical Pakistani stupidity. for some people, Oxford is not good enough to teach some common sense
We dont want Dam built by US money until drones are stopped.
Period, otherwise Khan sahab will block the water.
Why U.S. why helping a country which is playing a double game. I seriously feel for the U.S. taxpayers.
Gob bless America, it's for the haters!!
PTI/IK will start sit-ins to stop the Dollar-supply Lines!!!
20 million? is it a joke?
Kashkol's getting deeper and deeper...
