Constitutional amendment: AJK bar association gives deadline

Demand decision-making powers presently with Pak prime minister.

MUZAFFARABAD:

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Saturday threatened to launch a movement if the government fails to make proposed amendments in the Interim Constitutional Act 1974 till December 31.

This was stated by AJKSCBA President Fazal Hussain Rabbani while addressing bar members. He asked the AJK government and opposition parties to follow in footprints of other provinces of the country that made their people powerful after making amendments in their constitution.



“All three pillars of the AJK State are being controlled by a third party which is a grave injustice with the Kashmiri people that would never be accepted,” said Rabbani.



He added that the bar has already submitted its proposed amendments in the AJK constitution which propose that all executive powers of the Kashmir Council, presently headed by the premier of Pakistan, be given to the people of Kashmir so they can appoint their judges on the pattern of the Pakistani Judicial Commission and select their own chief election commissioner with consensus from government and opposition parties.
