An additional district and sessions judge has sought comments from the Ichhra SHO by November 22 on a petition seeking a case against six men for allegedly attempting to expel the participants of a khatam from a mosque on Muharram 10.
Petitioner Chaudhary Zameer Ahmed, a retired DSP, submitted that he was the sajjada nashin of Darbar Baba Attar, where his grandfather Baba Fateh Muhammad Attar is buried.
He said that he had established a khanqah and a madrassa, Dars Baba Attar, on his own property and later built a mosque, Masjid Baba Attar, in the premises of the khanqah. He said that he had obtained approval from the Auqaf Department for celebrating a khatam in memory of the martyrs of Karbala on Moharram 10.
But when the ceremony started, a mob including Ghulam Rasool, Ghulam Mohyuddin, Muhamamd Waheed, Shuja, Master Zubair and others attacked the participants of the khatam and attempted to expel them from the mosque, the petitioner said. They allegedly beat the participants. He said that the attack was planned by Qari Abdul Qadeer. The police were called in and they removed the attackers from the mosque and allowed the ceremony to continue, he added.
Ahmed said that Qadeer had a grudge against him as he and other Ichhra residents had filed complaints against him with the Anti Corruption Establishment, the Federal Investigation Agency and the Auqaf Department for spreading sectarian hatred, embezzling mosque funds and stealing electricity from the mosque.
