SHC reserves verdict on petition against Musharraf

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has reserved its verdict on an application to register a case of treason against former president Pervez Musharraf till October 14 (Thursday).

The petitioner in the case, Maulvi Iqbal Haider, said that cases should be filed against Musharraf and his close aides for misusing their authority.

The petitioner referred to the imposition of emergency and violation of constitution by the ex-army general. He said action should be taken against Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution.

The Sindh High Court issued notices to Musharraf and his aides with regard to the case, but they did not appear before the court. Therefore, the court has decided to announce its verdict in their absence.

Earlier last month, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notices to the federation to file a high treason case against Musharraf after a petition was filed by advocate Ilamuddin Ghazi under Article 6, seeking registration of a case against Musharraf.

Musharraf recently returned to the political limelight when he launched his party the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). The former president’s comments of returning were greeted with scorn by political rivals, with the prime minister and PPP parliamentarians claiming that he will have to face the courts upon his return.
