
Initially six companies from South Korea, China and Pakistan had shown interest in development of the 590MW Mahl Hydropower Project (MHP) and conclusively three companies submitted the proposal on Friday to the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB).
The three companies include CWE Investment Corporation China, Sinohydro Group Limited China and Nishat Group Associates Pakistan.
The project is to be located on dual boundary of Punjab (Rawalpindi) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Bagh. The work of the project will commence in December 2016. The estimated cost of the project is US$1 billion.
The project will be implemented on Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) basis and will be transferred to Government of AJK on completion of twenty five years.
The Government attaches top priority to generate electricity at affordable price.
