KARACHI: Sindh government has given the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) the authority to register FIRs.

According to sources, the SIU cannot file cases involving family or other personal disputes. However, the department will have the authority to file cases involving illegal possession of weapons and drugs, police encounters and raids.

Drug peddler remanded

The right-hand man of a suspect involved in a drugs case, Ali Hassan Brohi, was remanded into judicial custody and sent to jail for 14 days.

Gulshan-e-Maymar police presented alleged drug peddler Ali Hassan in the judicial magistrate west, Arif Rajput’s, court on Saturday. The police submitted the jail warrant in court and said that the accused should be sent to jail.

Expressing disapproval, the court asked the police why they had issued a jail warrant without court orders to which the investigation officer apologised.
