FAISALABAD:

The police on Wednesday beat up and arrested three men for protesting against police for its failure to arrest the men they said had snatched a tractor-trolley loaded with wheat bags from them.

Earlier, brothers Ghulam Nabi, Muhammad Aslam and Muhammad Anwar, residents of Samunndri, and some of their relatives staged a protest at the Kutchery Bazaar intersection. The protesters said that some men from Chak 13-GB had deprived the three brothers of their tractor-trolley carrying wheat bags three weeks ago.

They said they had filed a complaint with the Rail Bazaar police but they had not acted on it.

The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded that the suspects be arrested immediately and their tractor-trolley and the wheat bags recovered.
A police team baton charged the protesters and arrested the three brothers and beat them up.

Muhammad Jameel, a witness, said that the protesters had not been violent. He said the police had dragged the three brothers on the road and onto the police van. He said the police had also threatened the protesters with more arrests if they did not disperse.

Samundri-Saddar SHO said that they were investigating that matter. He said the three men had been arrested for trying to attack some policemen.

He said none of the protesters was maltreated.
