LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge has sought comments from the Mughalpura SHO by August 17 on a petition filed by a lawyer against his former client for allegedly posing as an American spy, for not paying him, and for making death threats. Petitioner Advocate Mehar Shahid Hayat submitted that he had represented Javed Mehmood in several cases in Sheikhupura and Lahore.

He said that Mehmood had claimed to be a director with an American intelligence agency and had shown him his official card. But when he demanded his fee, Mehmood made various excuses and delayed payment, Hayat submitted. He began to doubt Mehmood’s claim that he was with American intelligence and made some inquiries. He had learned that his client was not with US intelligence and had previously been convicted in drugs and bank fraud cases. Hayat said that Mehmood had threatened to kill him when he demanded that he pay his fee of Rs6.6 million. He asked the court to direct the SHO concerned to register a case against his former client for deceiving him, for not paying him, and for making death threats.
