Media briefing: Crime in Bahawalpur increasing, says ASP

Several criminals arrested, one killed in encounter over the weekend.

Several criminals were arrested on Saturday and Sunday in police raids, the assistant superintendent of police (city) said on Monday. He was addressing a press conference.


He said the crime rate in the district was increasing, especially in the Samma Satta area. He stressed the need for regular surveillance of people whose conduct was suspicious.

He said Station House Officer Pervaiz Iqbal and Sub Inspector Malik Mairaj were assigned the patrol duty and raids in the area over the weekend.

In one raid, the police team arrested three members of the Sheena Chaddar Gang. They were later identified as Ghulam Yaseen, Saeed Ahmad Kalaan and Khizar Chaddar.

The ASP said that several stolen motorcycles and illegal weapons were recovered from them.



Elsewhere, the head of Nadir Gang, also known as the Kaali Gang, involved in motorcycle theft in Bahawalpur and its suburbs, was were arrested. Police recovered several motorcycles and spare parts from him. The ASP said he had led the police to a building where frames of several stolen motorcycles had been hidden.

The Samma Satta police also recovered a tractor stolen six months ago. The thief, later identified as Haji Hakim Ali Bhutta, was also arrested.

Encounter

He said one person had been killed in July in an encounter.

Abdul Latif, also known as Bitti Naai, a resident of Nowshera Jadeed, was wanted in a rape case. He was also suspected of several robberies. His accomplice had fled in the shootout.
