KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has restrained the Election Commission from notifying Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s Jam Madad Ali as the returned candidate on the Sindh Assembly seat PS-81 till July 5, on Monday.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s Asghar Ali Junejo, who lost the seat to rival candidate, Jam Madad Ali, had challenged the results of the re-election held on the PS-81 constituency on June 26.

He accused Ali of rigging the elections, alleging that armed men, belonging to the PML-F, had taken over 30 polling stations where his voters and poling agents could not reach on election day.

The returning officer was requested to hold re-counting of the polled ballots as prescribed under the Section 36(6) (a) of the Representation of Peoples Act 1976, but the same was dismissed without assigning any justifiable reason, the petitioner stated. Headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, the bench issued notice to the ECP, RO for PS-81 and Jam Madad Ali for July 5. The ECP was directed not to issue notification regarding victory of Jam Madad Ali.
