An additional district and sessions court has acquitted a Pakistan Peoples Party legislator, Shah Jahan Baloch, of the charges of attempt to murder and encounter with police due to lack of evidence.

Kalakot police had booked Shah Jahan Baloch with co-accused Shiraz Ahmed, Rizwan and Shahid in FIR 223/2012 pertaining to encounter with staff of crime investigation department and firing with intention to kill them on April 28, 2012.

On Saturday, Baloch moved the filed acquittal application with the ADJ Shahid Ali Chandio, South, Karachi, under Section 265-K of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

His lawyer claimed that the prosecution failed to submit evidence to prove involvement of Shah Jahan, who was elected National Assembly’s member in May 11 general election.

“Case is totally false and baseless,” argued the lawyer, adding that not a single witness had so far been presented by the investigator against the applicant, which shows that the prosecution had failed establish offence alleged on Baloch.

The court was pleaded to order the acquittal of the applicant due to lack of evidence. Allowing the plea, the court acquitted Shah Jahan Baloch of the charges for want of evidence.
