Setting An Example: Tribal elders form peace committee

It was jointly decided in the meeting that Tap Takhtikhel would be made an example for other areas of the district.

TANK: Elders of Sarai Naurang have constituted a peace and reforms committee to keep a check on illegal activities and punish any violators.

The local jirga will allow tribal leaders to bring peace and resolve petty issues. A meeting was held in the office of DSP Naurang, Sanaullah Khan Marwat, and was attended by about 70 elders of the Bazi Khel, Ali Khel, Asghar Khel, Garghi Khel Shiekh, Shahbaz Khel, and Fatih Khan Khel tribes. Gul Faraz was elected as the committee chief, Qalandar Khan as deputy chief, Kamal Khan second deputy and Hayatullah as general secretary. Other committee members were also selected. It was jointly decided in the meeting that Tap Takhtikhel would be made an example for other areas of the district.

The committee decided those found stealing a vehicles will be fined Rs50,000; Rs30,000 for causing damage to life and property; Rs50,000 for insulting a committee member; Rs100,000 for severely injuring them; and Rs300,000 for killing a member. Those found stealing from a shop or involved in narco-trafficking will be fined Rs10,000.
