FAISALABAD:

A six-year-old girl from Tandlianwala died of measles on Saturday, Allied Hospital doctors said.

The deceased was brought to the hospital 10 days ago. On Saturday, the girl died at her home shortly after she was discharged from the hospital.

Following her death, Divisional Commissioner Mushtaq Ahmad Anjum visited the hospital’s measles ward.He directed the health authorities to take all possible measures to help the patients.

“This is an emergency…comprehensive plans should be made to overcome this problem,” he said.

Medical Superintendent Muhammad Arif told The Express Tribune, “21 children suffering from measles were admitted on Friday and Saturday.” He said as many as 50 children suffering from the disease were under treatment at Allied Hospital.

In a meeting with reporters last week, executive district officer (health) had said that 12 children had died from measles in the district since January.

The number, however, seems to be increasing.
