KOLKATA: Who could have thought that Saawariya’s chocolate hero, despite his dull debut, would wow the audiences with impeccable performances one after the other? Wake up Sid, Rockstar, Barfi! — he nailed them all.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor, son of yesteryear’s famous Bolly couple Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, is grateful for having worked with “interesting film-makers” since his 2007 debut. Ranbir confessed that playing himself in forthcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has been “harder” than enacting characters in his previous films.

“I am grateful that I got to work with such good directors. I was at the right place at the right time ... I got these opportunities and I was intelligent enough to grab them. I think these [Anurag Basu, Ayan Mukerji] are really interesting film-makers. They have great things to say through their movies and I just kind of tag along on their vision,” said Ranbir.

Describing his celluloid journey so far as amazing, Ranbir acknowledged that his passion and profession are the same. “It’s been amazing. I don’t know how these five years have passed ... I don’t know how these nine films have released. I am really happy that I get to do what I love and I think what is important is that you should do what you love,” he said.

His next film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has been directed by Ayan Mukerji and it also stars Deepika Padukone.

Rockstar and Barfi! are far more easier for me because I am playing a character. In films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, I have to play myself, which is way harder because you have to reflect your own personality,” he explained.

Produced by Dharma Productions, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which releases on May 31, also stars Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor.
