The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and waste management companies from 60 countries ratified the Istanbul Waste Management Consensus at the International Waste Management Conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
3W Istanbul 2013 from May 22 to May 24, hosted thousands from the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and Europe. The conference was organised by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, ISTAC and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration, the union of municipality of Turkey and various international universities.
The participants, as part of the convention, agreed to adhere to an internationally acceptable system of solid waste and water management and to help each other tackle any challenges in this regard.
LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary briefed the solid waste experts and environment engineers about the solid waste management system and practices in Lahore. A documentary on LWMC’s operations, performance and future plans regarding the introduction of an integrated waste management system in Lahore, was also screened at the conference.
The participants at the conferences commended the LWMC’s operations in Lahore. The six-member delegation from the LWMC also attended technical training courses, exhibits and visited the offices of Albayrak and Ozpak in Turkey.
