ECP orders vote re-count in PP 198

MULTAN: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday ordered recounting of votes in seven polling stations of PP-198.

The decision came after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate from the area Wasim Khan Badozai filed an application. He claimed that he had almost won the provincial seat but the results were manipulated and he lost seat by about 3,000 votes.

Badozai was defeated by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate, Shehzad Maqbool Bhutta in close competition.

Earlier, PP-198 was considered as stronghold of the PPP since 1988 and no PPP candidate had suffered defeat in the constituency. However, in the May 11 elections, the PPP candidate in the constituency Adnan Dogar came in a distant third with about 17,000 votes trailing the leading candidates by thousands of votes.

Shehzad Maqbool Bhutta secured 32,394 votes while Badozai, the runner up, bagged 29,381 votes.

khan | 10 years ago | Reply Because of non computerization in voting stations the possibility of fraudulent votes are very high in Pakistan. To make this and future elections credible ECP should be part of the judiciary and ECP should make sure the voter is not harassed or influenced in any way how to cast their vote and the total vote count should be available through out the day to prevent votes stealing and every vote should be verified with Nadara for thumb impression no matter how much time it takes and if fraudulent votes are discovered ECP should take action in retrospect and charge this candidate and the staff of ECP and all other culprits involve in this crime for election fraud and disqualify them to hold any public office or government job and apply exemplary punishment each person with heavy fines. If this measure is applied then there is a possibility of honest and fair election in Pakistan.
