Election security: Section 144 imposed in Peshawar

Afghan refugees will also be barred from entering Peshawar.

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Friday imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure which includes a ban on displaying arms in the city to maintain law and order on Election Day.

A notification issued by the deputy commissioner’s office said Afghan refugees will also be barred from entering Peshawar and are advised to stay within the limits of their camps. According to the notification, pillion riding will be banned in the city today (Saturday) and security officials have been directed to deal with violators and whoever tries to disrupt peace with an iron hand. No political activity will be allowed within 400 meters of the polling stations and aerial firing is strictly prohibited. Section 144 also bars the use of tinted glasses and loudspeakers.
