‘Industries need to innovate to compete internationally’

PC deputy chairman visits GCUF, boosts students’ morale.

Haque urged the students to explore their own world by sharpening innovative skills so that the country can emerge as one of the developed nations.

FAISALABAD: The people of Pakistan need to change their mindset to explore the new horizon of industries at par with the modern world by applying innovative ideas to catch the international market, said Dr Nadeemul  Haque, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission on Monday.

He was speaking as the keynote speaker at the seminar arranged by the Department of Economics, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF). GCUF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zakir Hussain was the guest of honour on the occasion. Dr Sohail Jehangir Malik, chairman of the Innovative Development Strategies department also addressed the seminar, while GCUF’s Economic Department’s chairperson Dr Sofia Anwar welcomed the participants.

Haque said that innovative ideas were the key to progress for any county. He added that China and Malaysia had proved their mettle in the global market. He was of the view that we had to the take advantage from experiences of the first world. He said that there are many industries like construction, hotel management etc, which had a lot of potential, but Pakistan was lagging far behind. Due to usage of mostly traditional practices in industries, Pakistan was not able to benefit fully from the potential of the modern techniques.



He urged the students to explore their own world by sharpening innovative skills so that the country can emerge as one of the developed nations. He said that Pakistan was blessed with four seasons, best climate and talented people. But the problem was that we were not implementing our innovative ideas. He stressed upon the students to leave no stone unturned to get educated and apply in their respective field in order to make the development.

Professor Hussain said that by producing skilled manpower, the economy of the country can boost up sharply. He said that university is taking all possible steps to equip students with skills. He said that skilled manpower was the secret of the uplift of the any society. He lauded the valuable ideas presented by the key speaker that will help students to set their goals and do something for the development of the country.

Dr Anwar said that the GCUF had emerged as the sixth best university of the country, according to the ranking list of the Higher Education Commission.

when i go to super market and see 40 kinds of cheese, i wonder, leave Iphone and satellites aside, we cant even have innovation in dairy products.
