Members of the Senate including Ishaq Dar and Raza Rabbani addressed the media, following the senate session.
Rabbani, while commenting on Musharraf’s imprisonment in his farmhouse, said the retired general was a self-proclaimed president and should not be given preferential treatment.
“We all are equal and we all should be treated equally,” he said.
Earlier on April 18, the Islamabad High Court issued arrest order for Musharraf, however, he fled the court premises without getting arrested. He was taken to his residence in Chak Shahzad by his security convoy.
Today, Musharraf surrendered to the authorities and his farmhouse was declared a sub-jail. The court also granted two-day transit remand of the former president.

it speaks that our politicians are united on one account, at least. with Musharaf behind the bars, their combined ego will be satisfied. He is the only culprit in this country. Asghar Khan case, 1997 attack on supreme court, swiss accounts, surrey palace etc are all hoax. WELL DONE, the politics of guarding each other's interests
what about the current president dear senators? For which SC wrote to swiss courts but you never passed any resolution for his impeachment.
@asad: I hope Justice Ifikhar will press upon implementation of SC decision on Asghaar Khan case and initiate contempt proceedings against those who did not comply with.
May I reproduce Syed A. Zafar;s (USA) comments of April 19, 2013 7:46 pm It is unfortunate that our judiciary, its subordinate courts, its right wing petitioners/masters and sworn enemies of Mr. Musharraf seem working together to settle personal/political scores with Mr. Musharraf and other political opponents, and it does not matter if it violates judicial norms, ethics and their conflict of interests while trying a common political/ideological enemy. Let us go back a little bit and recall what a sworn enemy of Mr. Musharraf and the lead organizer of lawyers movement said in a public gathering during CJ saga, he said “I swear upon, God after the reinstatement of CJ Iftekhar Malik, the judiciary will be independent and every problem of Pakistan will be gone” O’ yes, all problems of Pakistan are gone, our judiciary is completely independent, the judges, the RO’s and ECP are free for selective dispensation of justice and same is the case seems with lawless lawyers and Arsalan Malik who are free to do whatever it takes to prove that they are above the law, they can’t be arrested and prosecuted. In other words our judiciary is privately owned and operated by the right wing political parties. It is shame that on one hand this judiciary seems biased and motivated by personal vendettas and on the other hand it claims to be independent and fair. For the sake of argument if this judiciary and its right wing supporters believe that their opponents have committed crimes, why they do not request an outside independent panel of judges and legal experts to come and help Pakistan in investigating and trying cases against Mr. Musharraf and other political opponents in order to find what is truth behind the made up political cases. After all these are high profile cases and being linked with the murders of Benazir, Bugti and the terrorists of red mosque. Why it is important for CJ and his buddy justices to serve the interests of their religious/political masters who rescued and reinstated them through mob politics? And why it is important for such politically motivated PCO justices to be the part and in charge of the trials against their own political enemies? And why it is important for this judiciary to help and qualify its own political supporters (PMLN leaders) for the third term election even after they are known corrupt leaders, NAB has declared them guilty after investigation and in the past they have physically attacked SC, assaulted and sacked judges? And how come the most disqualified election contestants are from other than right wing religious/political parties? and how come the least disqualified election contestants are from the right wing parties like PTI. PMLN and JI? Hey, hall of fame judiciary! what is going on and what are you up to? Are these final touches part of religious extremists mission to bring back the “ZIA ERA” and once it is achieved every thing will be made calm and smooth for the coming messiah and the extremists/terrorists will be sent back to their hide outs?
I think the biggest crime committed by Musharraff is the adoption of NRO..
Well done, Senate! Now, how about self accountability? How about calling for action against all corrupt politicians? Could the Senate investigate and name them and their crimes?
Guess Mush's 25000 dollar a month lobbyist did not do a good job as Pakistani judges are not for sale as was the case during Mush's rule
@FaiselH: Musharraf should honour and commitment to his own slogan of 'Pakistan fIrst' by complying the law of the land and show respect to the constitution of Pakistan during the coarse of his trial.
more they grill him, more i become determined to vote his party
The real criminals now look clean!
What about charging Sufi Mohammad for treason too for speaking against the Pakistani constitution. Selective justice points towards widespread radicalization of the society which can lead to self-destruction of the society.
people who gave him guard of honour now talking about to punish him.
It's great that the geniuses in senate have found yet another great avenue for their energies.
The demoocratically elected parliament had 5 years to show the people something. It delivered un told excruciating poverty to the masses. A bit like the PML-N after 1999.
Instead of raising revenues, trying to deliver education and basic services to the people our great leaders are busy wasting time with constitutional ammendments.
All readers of this blog ask yourself one thing: Was the country better under Musharraf or PPP? Will the PML-N be any better than the PPP? I doubt it.
Where was this senate when he left the country with mutual cooperation of PPP and PML-N
@waleed: if Musharraf did so many bad things then repeal all of his laws including NRO too
You still have hangover. My friend, there is no longer anything called NRO.
What about PML(N) case of attack on supreme court?
if Musharraf did so many bad things then repeal all of his laws including NRO too
His sick joke, "Pakistan First", comes to an end.
Dear Statues of Honesty and unbiasedness, please bring to the court all the culprits of the nation including NRO beneficiaries and those who have run away with the plundered money. Bring justice and equality
If senators wish to be impartial then they should also pass the resolution to prosecute all NRO beneficiary and corrupt to the core politicians.
How this Siddiqui dude became a judge? He was the lawyer of Mullah Aziz burqa wale, Mumtaz qadri, anjum aqeel and the likes. The nomination and selection process for superior judiciary has become a joke. It speaks volumes about the competence of the nominating person himself.
What happened in the five years of the ostensibily "Democratic" government. In case the government/legislators were serious, the government should have proceeded as per law. Why this blustering now.
looking more big fishes to be hooked in the coming days... including current president and his cronies on corruption charges after his term in office and current cj over his son's involvement with riaz malik or NS if 3rd option got the power....... nobody will let his rivals when he has the powers in this country...... whether this is a good or bad but certainly wrong time for the decision.....
“We all are equal and we all should be treated equally,” Yes 100% true we are equal equal, should not have the constructional immunity even under NRO case? Mr. Rabani's words must be respected. So there should be no more for NRO's beneficiaries
Respecting the Constitution, please follow the resolution of the Senate
What about Nawaz Sharif's corruption cases?
Treated equally? Looks like he forgot the protocol Nawaz Sharif (the common man) enjoys,
this is the proper way......if he has done something wrong he should pay along with his allies.....!!!
I don't know for what reason people have so much faith in democrazy. It has never worked in Pakistan.
Pakistan as a nation is not ready for democrazy. We need to groom ourselves first and be more civilized and educated. Only then democrazy would be of any use. Otherwise these corrupt politicians will always use it to fill their pockets, and for their own good. Nothing for the people.
Ishaq dar and Raza Rabbani are no angels.Their parties are also responsible for massive corruption and nepotism which has shaken the very survival of our country .Lets have a ruthless accountability across the board -of generals ,judges and politicians. Why dont they turn a blind eye to their misdeeds and are finding a scapegoat in the form of General(retd) Musharraf for all the evils facing our country.
People in glass houses should not throw stones on others, senate should understand.
