ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a directive to stop its officials from providing information directly to the media.

According to ECP sources, the circular issued by the commission reads: "Some officers of the ECP are directly providing information to media which is against the official decorum as it causes misstatements and also damages the images of ECP."

The ECP has directed all its departments to ensure provision of copies of all letters/directives/decisions immediately to the Deputy Director PR and media coordinator on a daily basis for onward issuance to the media.

Last week, the ECP took notice of remarks made by interim Interior Minister Malik Habib Khan regarding Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif.

The commission also called for a copy of a video of the interview in which Khan said that Nawaz was the only true national leader and that he had been voting for the PML-N in the past.
