LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial postponed Jamatud Dawa leader Hafiz Saeed’s petition to March 29 for further arguments.

The petition seeks direction to the federal government to defend the JuD leader before a US court which had issued summons to Saeed, the ISI chief and other officials on a law suit filed by relatives of US nationals killed in Mumbai attacks.

On Friday, amicus curiae Ahmer Bilal Soofi advanced his arguments. He said that the state could interfere only when a citizen was arrested in a foreign country.

Earlier, Soofi had said that the UN had unanimously passed a resolution against terrorism and Pakistan, as a UN member, was bound to implement its resolutions.

He said providing legal assistance to Hafiz Saeed would strengthen Indian allegations.
