Pakistan Railways is striving hard to overcome its deficit, currently rehabilitating its locomotives to allow more trains to be restored on several sections.
The government has approved project ‘Special repair of 150 running locomotives’ under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and Pakistan Railways was trying to overcome a shortage of locomotives so that more passenger and freight trains could be operated, an official said on Tuesday.
He said the purchase of new locomotives was necessary for the revival of the Railways but at present, the Ministry of Railways was struggling to make it a profit earning organisation.
The official said that the company was on its way to improvement, and with support of the government and private sector it will be well on its way to success.
He said the organisation was planning to launch more projects in line with the policy of public-private partnership and a few sections would soon be privatised.
