A proposal is under consideration to set up a National Food Security Council for promoting diverse, affordable and nutritious food in the domestic market, said an official of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research on Saturday.


The other objective of the council would be start food relating social protection schemes to reduce food insecurity.

He also highlighted the other measures adopted to reduce food insecurity in the country and said agriculture research was being promoted to enhance the productivity as a result of which we have surplus in wheat, rice and sugar.

Attractive Support Price for wheat procurement has been fixed to encourage the growers. The price fixed for next crop is Rs1,200 per 40 kilogramme.
