KARACHI: Less than a week after joining the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, party chief Altaf Hussain announced that the newcomer has been added to the party’s central executive council.

He welcomed Nabil Gabol in his address on Thursday, saying that MQM will not disappoint him and give him more success in his career.

He congratulated the office-bearers gathered at the Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad on the announcement of the date for holding general elections in the country. “President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the summary for holding general elections on May 11, 2013, and the Election Commission has announced the date for the submission of nomination forms.”

Hussain said that the MQM will take part in the general elections from across the country and was confident that the party will receive resounding success in Sindh. “We will form a government in Sindh and hope that the next chief minister will be from our party.”

Hussain extended full cooperation to the police and Rangers in their efforts to make Karachi and the rest of the country free from weapons.

Gearing up for elections

The MQM chief said that he had told all party members to refrain from attacking other parties. The office bearers and workers have been asked to refrain from using uncivilised language against political opponents under any condition.

Hussain also spoke on the rights of minorities and women, saying that the party will make sure they are treated fairly and not victimised.
