The Shia cleric also demanded that Karachi be deweaponised.
While talking to the media, Allama Abbas reiterated that the blast was not a result of sectarian violence.
He also questioned the government’s commitment to the fight against terrorism. He further asked the government to declare what steps it had taken to address the menace of terrorism.
Earlier on Sunday evening, a massive blast ripped through Abbas Town in Karachi, leaving 45 people dead and over 150 injured.

Am surprised, till now no one has blamed the one and only Taliban. did they do it , did they not do it. ? Who is behind this and what for ?
@HH: many people of aswj were killed by iranian sposored target killers but no cry over there dead why? dont tell me this didnt happen there was a report on pakistan today about that
@ahmed: Read the first para of the news my friend; he's clearly naming LeJ & SSP (a.k.a ASWJ). I think his statement about sectarian voilence was taken out of context/misquoted.
Don't worry, the APC would have an amnesty/peace talk package on offer for these despicable savages in no time.
Very sad day, now such events have reached Sindh too. Sindh has been a center of religious tolerance, diversity, secularism and Sufi traditions but alas such barbaric events shake the ever stronger traditions of Sufi and secular Sindh. Innocent Shia Muslims are being targeted mercilessly in Karachi. Indeed a black day in the history of Sindh. Civil society, intellectuals, media, and people of Sindh should unite to fight this menace to our society with determination. We wont allow our land to be used to unleash violence in the name of extremism and religious intolerance. Not in Sindh any more and not any where in Pakistan.
Its a clear attempt to create Iraq,Syria type situation in Pakistan with a clear plot to target one specific sect.
@ahmed: I think what the aforementioned Shia Aalim is saying that the base of the violence is not domestic differences between Shias and Sunnis but external triggers such as Saudi funding and geopolitical factors making it more of an act of terrorism. The reason for explicating it is that law enforcement agencies have traditionally brushed aside these incidents under the rug of "Shia-Sunni Fasaadaat" and did not take targeted action against the culprits well known to everybody.
@CK: {Vote for PPP, situation will remain the name. Vote for PML-N it will get worse}
Sadly true. PPP is spineless. PML(N) is confused at best and supportive at worst.
CK: Then vote for PTI and lets hope they do something about it sincerely.
Ahmed, by not saying it sectarian was also explained by him, which is that there is harmony among sunni shia of Pakistan however saying name of lej ssp means its state/saudi sponsored. He should have said "sectarian funded violence". Still the majority moderate sunnis and shias are united. Its just 3% - 5% which is actually sponsored and practically all including forces, politicians, judiciary are involved, They are not aware that one day same actors will be after their own children and families.
@ahmed: He is probably more sane than you and can see foreign hand involved.
@ahmed: Dear Ahmed, It is not sectarian because the perpetrators cannot be called sunni, they have to be human first before being called something else. Infact even animals are better than them. It is simply one sided barbarianism. And if we together don't do anything than it is only a matter of time that none of us will be safe. All Pakistanis should combine together to punish these devils... InshahAllah
Where are these so called Islamic Political parties. They should lead the demonstrations against religious extremism, Shamefully they are quiet and did not concerned.
I am myself a shia and am amazed by the foolish statement of this man, Abbas. How does he say that this is not a sectarian violence. A terrorist wahabi organization, which openly claims responsibility of each attack on shias and clearly mentions it's resolve to wipe out shias is involved. what other motive he thinks is behind this attack? He has given a clean chit to the Saudi sponsored terror outfit.
Vote for PPP, situation will remain the name. Vote for PML-N it will get worse.
