Unruly behaviour: Department starts proceedings against ‘fighting’ policemen

The officials had gotten into a quarrel in premises of the SC Karachi registry in 2012.

Seven policemen who had gotten into a brawl in the premises of the Supreme Court Karachi registry in September 2012 are facing departmental proceedings.

The security in charge at the registry, Syed Anwar Raza, Aram Bagh SHO Minhajul Hassan, and constables Muhammad Farooq and Sohrab have been suspended after departmental proceedings were initiated against them for negligence and for beating DSP Muhammad Maqsood.

Action has also been sought against SSP Khurrum Waris, DSP Noorul Haq Rind and DSP Maqsood, the three-member bench of the Supreme Court was informed by the Karachi CCPO Iqbal Mehmood on Thursday.

Taking suo motu notice of the incident, the apex court had ordered the city police chief to take action against all those people involved in the incident and submit a compliance report.

After defending their out-of-turn promotions, given for gallantry performance in fighting terrorism, the officers were seen running and hiding for safety after an angry DSP Maqsood brought out a gun from his car.

Accepting the submitted report, the bench - comprising Justices Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Khilji Arif Hussain and Sarmad Jalal Osmany - disposed of the suo motu case.
