SUKKUR: Traffic between all four provinces was suspended on Monday when hundreds of clerks under the banner of the All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) held a sit-in at the Rustam Road in Shikarpur.

The protesters demanded the immediate removal of the elementary education district officer and withdrawal of all cases against the APCA office bearers. Clerks of different departments, including education, health, population welfare, food and forest, shared their frustration with the “atrocities” of the education department officers and unjustified suspension and transfer of APCA office bearers. They alleged that the elementary education district officer, Ghulam Nabi Buriro, was an incapable and corrupt officer and was sanctioning fake appointments in the education department.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the association’s Shikarpur president, Abdul Wahab Kaghzi, said that according to the seniority list issued by the secretary education and literacy department,

Buriro should have retired on or before March 1, 2012 as his year of birth is 1952. The officer, however, is still serving after changing his birth year to 1955 in records, alleged Kaghzi who was suspended by the educations secretary along with two more officers. He added that Buriro further misused his powers by appointing two of his sons and a nephew as school teachers.

When contacted, the Shikarpur education district officer, Zamir Ahmed Abro, admitted to The Express Tribune that there were differences between the clerical staff and the district officer. He said that an inquiry will start in a day or two to resolve the issue.
