KARACHI: The Sindh High Court stayed on Tuesday fresh appointments on posts reserved for disabled persons in the special education department.

This restraining order came on a plea moved by at least 47 aspirant candidates challenging the appointments of incompetent persons.

They cited the provincial chief secretary, the secretary of special education department and the auditor general as respondents.

One of the petitioners, Siraj Hussain, said that the special education department advertised various vacant posts in September 2012.

The petitioners were called in for walk-in interviews and were short-listed as well, said lawyer Mehboob Khan.

“Instead of issuing offer letters, the officials issued offer and joining letters to blue-eyed persons, who never appeared in the interviews,” he said.

The bench ordered that no fresh appointments can be made until further orders.
