Massive fire engulfs military store in Karachi

ISPR spokesperson says fire has been controlled. No damage to life, burnt building served as a store.

KARACHI: A massive fire engulfed a military building located on Shahrah--e-Faisal, Karachi early on Sunday, Express News reported.

The fire engulfed one of the multi-storied buildings of the army headquarters among a cluster of military properties in the centre of the city.

Express News correspondent Rehan Ali said that Naval personnel had cordoned off the site and that as many as 35 fire tenders of the city, including snorkels, were summoned to the site to help aid fire engines of the Pakistan Navy to put out the blaze.

An ISPR spokesperson said that the blaze had been controlled almost 90 minutes after the fire started thanks to the efforts of fire tenders of the entire city. The official said that the fire was sparked by a possible electric short-circuit, though the cause was yet to be determined by a detailed investigation.

The spokesperson said that there was no damage to life in the incident and that the building that was affected was made mostly of wood and served as a store.

Express News correspondent added that a section of the busy thoroughfare near the site of the fire had been cordoned off by the forces and traffic was diverted away.

The affected building lies in a cluster of military buildings belonging to the Army and the Navy including the southern command of the Pakistan Navy and a head quarters of the army.

@Enlightened The generals have more interest in commercial activities than the Defense.
