LAHORE:

Labour Minister Haji Ehsaanuddin Qureshi said on Sunday that the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) was providing the best treatment facilities to registered workers and their families. In order to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to labourers, the Labour Department is spending Rs4.31 billion during the current fiscal year, he added. He said that new Social Security hospitals would be set up and existing hospitals modernised.

The minister said that a new social security hospital was being constructed in Sheikhupura.

Qureshi, speaking with party workers and labourers, said that the main objective of the Labour Department was to provide free-of-cost comprehensive healthcare facilities to workers and their family. He said social security was introducing a hospital management information system at the cost of Rs107 million. The scheme, he added, would be introduced at the dispensary level in a phased manner.

He said the present government had increased the marriage grant from Rs70,000 to Rs100,000 for labourers’ daughters and female workers. The death grant for the death of an industrial worker, he added, had also been increased from Rs300,000 to Rs500,000.
