FAISALABAD:

The government will register couples seeking help with planning their family size.

The couples will later be given contraceptives free of cost. The drive is being launched by the Population Welfare Department. A department official said that its workers had been told to complete the registration of such couples by January 31. A similar drive started in 2011, but was stopped after some religious leaders called it un-Islamic.

A department official said department’s representatives had met several religious leaders and discussed its benefits with them.
