Following a month’s relief to consumers, the government has increased the price of petrol by Rs1.65 per litre, in line with the hike in global oil prices effective from Tuesday (today).

The government had reduced the price of petrol by Rs1.23 per litre effective from December 22, 2012. However, starting from today, the price will increase from Rs101.42 to Rs103.07 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) notified prices to take effect from January 22, after receiving advice from the federal government, sources said.

According to a notification issued by Ogra, the price of kerosene oil and jet fuels have also increased, while the prices of other petroleum products, including High Speed Diesel (HSD) and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) have gone down.

On the other hand, the price of kerosene oil, another important fuel used in remote areas where liquefied petroleum gas is not available, has risen by Rs1.09 per litre. The new price of kerosene oil will be Rs99.90 per litre, against the old price of Rs98.81 per litre.
