As many as 339 under-privileged children from various areas of the division are being trained in crop production and harvesting, Executive District Officer (finance and planning) Rana Sakhawat Ali said on Tuesday.


He was addressing a meeting held to discuss children’s education and protection.

He said the government had taken practical steps to train and educate children who otherwise could not afford to do so due to financial crisis.

He said that children from 80 villages across the district had been trained at government vocational training institutes with the cooperation of the government and Plan International, a non government organisation. They were not charged any fee.

He said the children were given Rs5,000 for training and Rs3,000 each for transport.

Naushaba Malik, a district officer at the Child Protection Bureau, said that the bureau was playing an important role in providing children their rights and protection.

Plan Pakistan Project Coordinator Naeemullah Tufail gave a presentation about the NGO’s work for welfare of children.
