KARACHI:

The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) announced that it will back anyone who contests the upcoming elections against extremist groups.”Negotiations will be held with different political parties,” said Maulana Sadiq Taqvi, the general secretary of MWM’s Karachi chapter. “We will support Shia candidates, who will contest against extremist elements.”

The outfit will not directly contest the elections, he announced at a gathering at Numaish Chowrangi. Certain politicians are openly supporting anti-Shia groups, especially in the Punjab, he claimed. The religious outfit warned the outgoing Balochistan chief minister Aslam Raisani that he will not be allowed to enter Karachi.
