GUJRANWALA:

A district administration official said he was beaten up by some shop owners on Sunday for removing advertisement banners from a shopping centre.

Alauddin, who fled to save his life, has complained that Dhalay area police were not registering a complaint against the shop owners.

The taxation sector official said that when he removed some illegal streamers from a plaza on GT Road, some owners of some shops in the plaza beat him up and detained him in a shop.

He alleged that they also took away the cash and some documents he was carrying.

He said when they let him go, they threatened to kill him “if he returned”.

Police said they could not register a case without more evidence. Shopping centre spokesman Mir Anjum said they had not beaten or threatened the official. He, however, said that the official was told not to remove any streamers as they were “not illegal”. He said the shop owners will not let any government official intrude on the plaza.
