The Lahore High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on petitions against the ‘higher’ electricity tariff in the Punjab.
The petitioners, which include the Kissan Board, challenged the increase in electricity tariff for domestic and commercial consumers of the Punjab. They asked the court to direct the Water and Power Development Authority to charge a uniform power tariff in each province.
They submitted that the power tariff in the Punjab was much higher than in the other provinces. The Punjab’s recovery rate was the highest and its rate of electricity theft the lowest, but it was still suffering more power outages than the other provinces, they said.
A lawyer representing Wapda told the court that the authority was charging the same rate in all the provinces.
